Long Gully

Long Gully Wind Farm is a proposed small local (up to 12.5 MW = 25 turbines) wind farm using mid-sized New Zealand made Windflow 500 turbines. It would provide renewable electricity directly to the local Wellington community.  The use of these mid-sized turbines also means that existing roads can be used and that this smaller project can be viable.

Windflow Technology Ltd is developing this proposed wind farm at the Long Gully site because of the excellent wind resource on the south Wellington ridgetops and the relatively minor effects anticipated through using the shorter (30 metre high) Windflow 500 turbines. 

Long Gully is a largely uninhabited area of marginal farmland south of the Brooklyn wind turbine in Wellington. It is an ideal site for a wind farm because it is characterised by steep, windswept and predominately scrub covered slopes in a relatively isolated location.

Windflow Technology Ltd is managing the consenting, construction, turbine supply, and commissioning of the Long Gully wind farm on behalf of Mercury (previously called Mighty River Power).

Mercury is a State Owned Enterprise (SOE) which operates as an integrated energy generation, trading, retailing and metering business.
