Windflow UK Installs 500kW class 1A turbine at most challenging site yet

Windflow UK have installed the 101st Windflow 500 turbine at the Easter Aberchalder Estate.

Windflow UK have installed the 101st Windflow 500 turbine at the Easter Aberchalder Estate, to the south west of Inverness, its most challenging site to date, being born into the cold and violent storms of the recent “weather bomb!” The turbine is located at an elevation of 440 m and is reached at the end of 3.6 km of private estate tracks.  Because of the turbine’s compact size and weight this only required modest upgrades to the road.  After improvement this still had inclines of up to 20% and a weak bridge with only 3.0 m internal width. Innovative methods, including directional drilling under streams, were used to cost effectively lay the 2 km new connection.  In addition to the supply and installation of the turbine, Windflow UK managed much of the design and construction of the balance of plant for this testing project for estate owner Alex Catto.

Key parties include: Ecodyn (client’s consultant), Idom Merebrook (engineering consulting) CR Contracting (road), Turner Construction (foundations), G2 Energy (site electrics), Inverness Paving (cable trenching), Bryan J Rendall Electrical (installation) and Stoddart (crane hire)

Windflow UK Limited sell 500 kW wind turbines, and develop, build and operate wind projects.  It is owned by Windflow Technology Limited, the New Zealand based manufacturer of mid-size wind turbines.
