Public consultation
We want your feedback!
The initial wind farm proposal was put forward for assessment of environmental effects and public consultation in September 2008. As a result of this process the proposal has been refined to minimise potential effects relating to civil, ecology, sound and visual. There was a reduction in the number of turbines from 28 to 25 and some adjustment of the remaining turbines positions.
If you have any enquiries about the project, please email: info@longgully.co.nz
Resource consent application
The resource consent application for the wind farm was lodged with the Wellington City Council on 2 March 2009. A copy can be downloaded here Long Gully Wind Farm Consent Application. The Council publically notified the application on 21 May 2009 and public submissions closed on 26 June 2009.
Information evenings
In November 2008 information evenings were held in Wellington to give the public an opportunity to ask questions and provide comments on the proposed Long Gully wind farm. It was a ‘drop-in’ style evening with information on display and brochures to take away, and members of the project team answering questions and receiving feedback from those who attended.
Approximately 40 residents attended the Brooklyn evening on 18 November, and around 60 residents attended the Karori evening on 19 November.
People were able to leave their comments on a comment form on the night, or take one with a freepost envelope to send back.
Comments received have been mostly positive about the proposal, and particularly towards the smaller scale of the development and turbines.
The main areas of interest were:
- Recreational use /access
- Traffic implications in Brooklyn
- Effect on birds at Karori wildlife sanctuary
- Power line type and locations
- Sound
- Construction timing and effects
- Visual impact
The project team appreciates the feedback from the public and comments have been taken into consideration.
