Upgrade of Wind Turbine Gearboxes

27 June 2007

27 June 2007

A broken bolted joint was found in two gearboxes during a recent maintenance check of Windflow Technology’s first five production turbines installed near Palmerston North. As a result, the two gearboxes will be repaired under warranty with a strengthened joint design over the next few weeks. The other three will also be upgraded with the strengthened joint.

Geoff Henderson, Windflow Technology Limited CEO and Director, says that the company and its gearbox supplier, AH Gears, identified a design issue which has
now been resolved.

”Having achieved over 97% availability over the first six months of operation, we are happy with the performance of the turbines and will get the turbines back up and running with the least possible disruption to the wind farm’s operation”.
